The war resulted from the series of economic sanctions imposed on the United States from Britain and France as part of Napoleonic Wars. The treaty was signed on Dec 24, 1814 in the city of Ghent in United Netherlands. However the hostilities continued till 1815. And also because the US Congress ratified the treaty in Feb 1815.
