    The British India extended over most of today's India, Pakistan and Bangladesh. Lower and Upper Burma were parts of the Empire at specific times only.

    Burma was separated from British India and gained independence in 1948, Pakistan in 1947 and Bangladesh in 1971 (after separation from Pakistan).
