A conflict broke out between the Filipino rebels and their ally, the U. S. because the Filipinos thought that America would grant them total autonomy.

The main cause of the conflict was America's greed for an overseas empire. On the other hand the Filipinos desired freedom or autonomy. Hence a conflict broke out in the Philippine Islands.
