Agricultural exploitations during the 1920s decade ("Roaring Twenties") had an excess of workers. Mechanization improvements had been implemented and contributed to the obtention of a higher output per unit of land, but the very large amount of workers that were necessary before were not needed anymore. Therefore, the productivity of labor decreased, salaries in the sector plunged and many people was fired.

In this decade, many people moved to the cities attracted by the much higher salaries that were offered in the industrial and services sectors.
