What good might come from more government programs and regulations?

Government programs and regulations provide certain protections and a safety net for citizens. Government programs such as Social Security and Medicare and Medicaid provide pensions and medical assistance for a significant portion of society. Regulations are also important. They provide important checks and balances. Regulations include everything from the SEC, Securities and Exchange Commission, which oversees stock trading and regulatory agencies such as FDA, the Food and Drug Administration, which oversees food and drug production in the United States.

Taking care of poor/vulnerable people, reign in abuses of big business and private wealth.
