The lose of Haiti by France after the Haitian Revolution prompted it to sell Louisiana to the United States, as it was not able to defend it.

    Explanation:

The Louisiana Purchase was the acquisition of 828,000 square feet of land from France by the United States in 1803.

The Louisiana area included parts of 15 current US states and two Canadian provinces. France ruled the region from 1699 to 1762, the year the region was ceded to its ally Spain by the Treaty of Fontainebleau. Under the command of Napoleon Bonaparte, France recaptured the region in 1800 in the hope of creating an empire in North America. The slave revolution in Haiti and the impending war in Britain led France to abandon these plans and sell the entire region to the United States, which initially only wanted to occupy New Orleans.
