Kashmir is a state in the north of India. When India was partitioned, both India and Pakistan wanted to claim the Kashmir region. Pakistan felt it should govern Kashmir because of its Muslim population. However, the Indian Prime Minister, Nehru, had family ties to the region and supported the Hindu ruler. Today, India still maintains ownership of the Kashmir region, but both sides continue to arm the area and fight about its ownership.
