In September 1940 to May 1941 it was called the Blitz Field Marshall Goring (Germany) promised that the bombing of England would soften her up making invasion that much easier. Later on, when the RAF proved to be a force not to be tampered with, it was just bombing, but it was not nearly of the same magnitude as it was during the Blitz.
