New Jersey State Constitution granted suffrage to all its inhabitants (including women), provided they met the property condition.

    Explanation:

Prior to the enactment of the Nineteenth Amendment to the American constitution in 1920 which granted unqualified universal suffrage to all American citizens irrespective of sex or race, women were generally prohibited from voting. However, some states in the 17th century allowed certain women to vote provided they met certain conditions. One of such states such as New Jersey, provided under its constitution that all its inhabitants (both men and women) could vote and be voted for, provided that the inhabitant is of full age, had at least 50 pounds in worth, had a property worth 50 pounds and has been resident in the County for at least 12 months preceding the election. This constitutional provision empowered women who met the property qualification to vote and be voted for between 1776 to 1807. However, in 1807 the said provision was interpreted to cover only free white male citizens, thereby restricting women's suffrage. However, the advent of the 19th amendment brought an end to such restriction, and women are now eligible to vote and be voted for without any restriction. Other states that also allowed women to vote and be voted for before the advent of the 19th amendment but which subsequently revoked such rights include Utah and Wyoming Territory.
