The Weary Blues written by Langston Hughes has a gloomy tone because it transmits melancholy through the blues and the black person's description playing the piano. Sentences like: he played that sad raggy tune like a musical fool, ain't got nobody or I wish I had died, perfectly intertwine his passion for blues and the man's sadness while playing the piano.

Some of the words used in the poem that convey to this tone are: weary, poor, sad, melancholy, died and dead.
