She was a supporter of human and women rights. On August 10, 1970, she delivered the speech named "For the Equal Rights Amendment" in the House of Representatives. In the speech, she refers about the wrong expectation of the society of that time that women couldn't do what men could. That it is a wrong belief that women were not as smart as men and did not have the leadership than men showed.
