The Headright system was a system of a land grant to settlers, this system was used by Britain to give land in the colonies for some people so they could populate them. This system was used in many colonies for example in Maryland, Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina.

The Jamestown Colony was the first permanent settlement in the US. The main effect of the headright system was that the colony grew larger because many people saw this as an opportunity to have a better life.
