    Jamestown is a historic site in the State of Virgina which is known as the first permanement English settlement in North America.

    It is popular because it gave rise to a permanent British presence in North America leading to the eventual development of United States an Canada.

    It wad founded by the Virgina company of London as James Fort on May 4th 1607.

    For the next 86 years, it remainted the capital of the Virgina colony and thrived as a base for trading, administration and transportation.
