Ulysses S Grant was a union general who would later become president. A huge contribution he made to the war was successfully capturing vicksburg and therefore taking control of the mississippi river effectively cutting the south in half. Sherman was another union general who was Grant's right hand man. His biggest contribution was the famous Sherman's March to the Sea.

Stonewall Jackson and Robert E. Lee are some of the most famous Confederate leaders. Stonewall Jackson Shenandoah Valley campaign was so brilliant that it is still studied by military leaders to this day. The battle of Chancellorsville is considered to be a perfect battle done by robert E lee. With an inferior number of troops he was able to catch the union army by surprise and defeat them.
