In 1867 the united states purchased alaska and the whaling ships constantly occupied the arctic waters. these whalers took as many whales as they could but unlike the inuit that made use of the whole whale these commercially minded whalers only wanted what part of the whale?

    These commercially minded whalers who constantly occupied the Arctic waters took as many whales as they could only wanted the baleen part of the whale, unlike the Inuit that made use of the whole whale

    The baleen is a system inside the mouths of baleen whales that filters water out from the whale while the food remains inside it.
