By using the caucus, the people took no part in the nomination process.

    Explanation:

In the U. S., the nomination process takes place every four years. Presidential candidates take part in statal competitions previous to the general election to achieve a nomination for their party. In every contest, whether caucus or primary, there is a certain amount of delegates involved, who stand for their states when national party conventions take place. The contestant who gets the largest number of his or her delegates during this period gets nominated.

In these local meetings known as caucuses, official members of the party get together to debate and show support for the different presidential candidates, with no participation of the people.
