1 - In September 1786, commissioners from five states met at the Annapolis Convention to discuss reforms to the Articles of Confederation that would improve trade.

They invited representatives from other states to meet in Philadelphia to discuss improvements to the federal government. As a result of the debate, the Congress of the Confederation set out to review the Articles of Confederation on February 21, 1787. Twelve of the thirteen states, with Rhode Island being the only exception, accepted the invitation and sent delegates to the convention in May. 1787. The resolution convened by the Convention specified its purpose of amending the Articles of Confederation, but the Convention decided to propose the writing of a new Constitution.

The Philadelphia Convention voted to keep the deliberations in secret and decided to draft a new fundamental design of government that eventually established that nine of the thirteen states would have to ratify the constitution so that it would enter into force for the participating states.

2 - On September 17, 1787, the Constitution was completed in Philadelphia. Then Benjamin Franklin gave a speech in which he spoke of unanimity, although only nine states were required to ratify the Constitution so that it would come into force.

After arduous struggles for ratification in several states, New Hampshire became the ninth state on June 2, 1788. Once the Congress of the Confederation received news of the ratification of New Hampshire, it established dates for the Constitution to enter In force, and the federal government created by the Constitution began to operate on March 4, 1789, under the presidency of George Washington. Afterwards, all the presidents of the new country began their mandates on March 4, until in 1933 the Twentieth Amendment advanced that date to January 20.

3 - The Constitution of the United States is the supreme law that governs this territory and the most important document of the US government. It details the duties and responsibilities of the President and members of Congress, those who have sworn to protect and defend it.

More importantly, it determines the purpose and function of the federal government, as well as its relationship with states and with US citizens.

4 - The Constitution of the United States, unlike others that existed previously, made people rethink their own political systems and the role that the Government should play. Whether for the times it is cited or for the idea that the Government must have the consent of its people, this Constitution has had a global impact.

Here are some examples of its influence:

    • The Constitution had a direct impact on the French Revolution and the National Assembly formed a after that.

    • Many of the countries of Southeast Asia were influenced by the Constitution of the United States and drafted their own principles in a similar way.

    • Malaysia formed a government composed of three branches to prevent anyone from becoming too powerful.

    • Ideas about natural law and negative freedoms played an important role in the decolonization of Africa and the establishment of their own governments.
