What can Haiti do for itself to solve the charcoal problem?

Haiti suffers a very high degree of deforestation. This is because charcoal is intensively used for cooking; people in need of money cuts down trees because of this. The solution to this situation is to try using other cooking fuels and reforest, especially in varieties that are useful for eating, such as fruit trees.
