Basically impulsed by protestant religious members of the Methodist and Baptist congregations, the Second Great Awakening. As these congregations were preaching about the second coming of Jesus, they believe that they had to emulate the life and example of Jesus of Nazareth in order to get salvation. These concepts inspired people who participated in social reforms of the 1830s and 1840s.
