    True

    Explanation:

South Africa started to practice subjugation toward the natives in the 17th century when the Dutch and the British started to colonize this region. Two centuries later in 1833, slavery was abolished, however, most Black African, Colored, and Asian South Africans continued to be denied of their most basic rights such as the right of property, education, healthy work conditions and freedom to express.

Racial segregation and white supremacy was practiced thorough many years, but it was not until 1948 that it became legal under the Apartheid system, a system that formally limited contact between the races and continued to restrict black Africans civil rights.
