    Slaves had a lack of freedom, meaning that they could not think for themselves or act by their own free will. They could not earn money for their labour like citizens could. They could also be beaten by their masters and not be protected by law enforcement like other citizens would be if they were beaten. When slaves had children their children would also be born into slavery and not free.
