As we know it, the renaissance was a "rebirth" in the arts. During the time of the Renaissance, many artists that we know today became popular, like michelangelo, who painted "the creation of man" on the ceiling of the sistine chapel.

The Renaissance was also when Humanism started, which is the study of human achievements. This was also when the Peace of Augsburg occured along with the reformation of the churches and the birth of the Protestants.

The Renaissance was also a time of revival of interest in classical learning of the Greek and Rome.

There are many important people in the Renaissance like the Medici Family who became wealthy because of banking, and they controlled Florence, Italy for a long time, and many family members married into lords and became royalty. Catherine Medici was queen, wife of King Henry II. Another important person is Martin Luther who wrote the 95 theses, statements of belief that attacked the churches practices. He was a german monk. The Reformation was a part of the Renaissance. The Reformation was a religious movement of the 16th century that was an attempt to reform the Roman Catholic Church and resulted in the creation of Protestant Churches.
