Jerusalem is important to Jews, Christians, and Muslims. To the Christians and Muslims, it is considered the holy Land. This is because the Christians believe it is where Jesus was crucified, died, and was buried, while Muslims believe it was where Mahammad ascended from Heaven. These reasons can also explain the Crusades and the fight for the control of Jerusalem.
