During the Civil War, the Confederacy faced shortages of many goods. Why was there a shortage of manufactured goods in the South?

    Remember that the North did not have good farmland and had a colder climate, which led to them building up factory infrastructure (and focus on fishing). The south, with it's warmer climates, generally focused on farming, and cash crops.
