What do you think President Kennedy was referring to in his inaugural address to the nation when he said, "Let every nation know whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foes to assure the survival and the success of liberty."

Kennedy is kind of showing his true confidence and telling the world that it will go to any limits to ensure the survival and success of liberty. We often see countries talking about creating strength by establishing peace, here Kennedy is kind of steering the other way and openly challenging the globe by basically saying he is going to bring peace and keep liberty alive even if strength comes into play (as he oppose any foes and such). So basically the opposite of the well known sayings and going for the peace through strength, not strength through peace

That's what I got from it, could be way off but something you could think about and may be generate some more ideas.
