    The chronological order of the events listed is the following

    The allied forces landed on 5 French breaches in Normandy (6th June 1944). It was denominated the operation Neptuno or D-Day and it meant the arrival of the US forces to mainland Europe to initiate the liberation of the French territories occupied by the Nazis since the first years of WWII (1940) The nazi forces surrendered to the Allies in Paris on the 19th Augsut 1944. The French Resistance initiated the attack, knowing about the imminent arrival of the US Army led by General Patton. After the libertaion, Charles de Gaulle assumed control of the provisional goverment of the French Republic. American soldiers and French fighthes marched North through France. After the Liberation of Paris, both allied forces united and headed North in order to liberate other territories that had been occupied by the Nazis. The allies liberated Belgium and the Netherlands from nazi control. Those liberations were finally accomplished on the 4th February 1945 and the 5th of May 1945.
