After 1877, racial segregation became widespread in the south primarily as a result of the Jim Crow law. The Jim Crow Law was the law that allowed segregation into the south side of the United States between 1877 and 1950s. Segregation in the United States was when the white's separated colored people from them, they separated people due to their race. Segregation was a rough time for people of color, but because of the activists, like Martin Luther King Jr, segregation was eliminated. Even though segregation was removed from the laws, there is still racism till this day.
