Soviets viewed it as creating a defense for themselves, U. S. saw it as an act of increasing influence and challenge their hegemony.

    Explanation:

Soviets were afraid of future attacks by west on their territory by expanding itself in Europe it was creating a buffer, which will avoid any future skirmish on Soviet. U. S. had enough with the policy of appeasement and isolationism further they experienced that a expanding country will go on a war with them as Germany did.
