The Grantism is a word referring to President Ulysses S. Grant used by his political opponents. It was used to reffer to Grant's political incompetence, fraud and corruption during his administration. President Grant was known to be involved in several scandals, including fraudulent activities with his cabinet. The term was first used in a speech held by Senator Charles Sumner to differentiate the Republican Party from Grant.
