The Albany Plan of Union would have granted the american colonies the right to tax.

The Albany Plan of Union was an initial attempt of joint goverment for the Thirteen Colonies and it was suggested by Benjamin Franklin in 1754, in the Albany Congress, were representatives of the colonies had gathered to discuss issues related to the French and Indian War.

The plan consisted on electing representatives from each colony (the number of representatives in proportion to the different colony sizes), that would conduct joint decision-making, aiming to raise a common army and to create a united tax system.
