    B. The act prohibited Chinese immigrants from becoming American citizens, is the correct answer.

    Explanation:

The Chinese Exclusion Act was a law to restrict the immigration of skilled labourers from China. It was first vetoed by President Arthur as it violated the terms of 1868 Burlingame treaty with China. The act was meant to restrict the immigration of Chinese for ten years from 1882 to 1892. It was extended by the 1892 Geary Act and then made permanent till 1943. The main reason for enacting this act was that the Chinese workers were willing to work at less pay. It caused friction with the american labourers and the politicians started to raise their issues. The sentiments against them grew during the economic depression and the immigrants were blamed for it. The Chinese exclusion act allowed the Chinese to immigrate but did not grant the right of naturalisation.
