why might the United States have been concerned early in the war about China's attitude toward the US involvement on the side of South Vietnam?

The US was worried about China due to the fact that they could get involved fully into the war making it difficult for the US to continue fighting. Also during this time period countries were either Democratic or Communist, the US was focused on struggling countries to stay away from communism. China was the opposite wanting countries to fall to communism.
