Bush and his allies in the coalition was the assertion that Iraq possessed and was developing weapons of mass destruction, in violation of a 1991 agreement. Other reasons for the invasion included concerns about financial support from Iraq for the families of Palestinian bombers, violations of human rights by the Iraqi government and the re-establishment of democracy in the country.
