    A totalitarian political system with one-party rule, with no competitive democratic elections. The Soviet state was also characterized by a central command economy with no private property, no private companies and all major economic decisions were made by bureaucrats in charge of a planning system, and the state made all decisions on prices and allocation of resources in the economy.
