    Martin Luther King was a civil rights activist and aimed to achieve equal rights to African Americans citizens. During his "I Have a Dream" speech Martin refers to many Americans documents, one of them was the Declaration of Independence. He emphasized that the founding fathers wrote the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence they wanted equal rights to all Americans, with no difference of color. He implicitly says that the rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness are for all as equal humans and Americans.

    Luther King also mentions the Gettysburg Address by stating that America was built upon the belief that all men are created equal.
