Explanation:

Spanish American war was armed conflict between US and Spain n 1898. The US intervened in the Cuban war of independence after the explosion USS Maine in Havana Harbour. The major battles were fought in Cuba and Philippines. After the war US became the dominant power in the Caribbean region and acquired Spanish Territories in the Caribbean region. As a result of the war US gets Puerto Rico, Guam and the Philippine Island to US for 20 million dollars.

President McKinley didn't resisted going to war but he gave in to public pressure and declared war on 25th April 1898. The war ended on August 12, 1898.
