The Yuan dynasty was the dynasty established by Kublai Khan, a Mongolian leader. This was the first time a foreign-born ruler had ruled all of China. Kublai Khan effectively conquered China by 1279, but he claimed his grandfather Genghis Khan was the official founder of the dynasty.
