How did Spain respond to French interest in East Texas

When spain learned of the mission of La Salle (founder of the french colony called Fort Saint Louis) to try to extend its colony along with another french colony called Pays del Illions to claim possession of the region corresponding to the current of texas, spain fearing that the french colony could threaten its control over New Spain and the southern part of North america, iberian authorities financed expeditions to find and destroy the settlement. When at last the remains of the colony were discovered in 1689, the spaniards buried the weapons and burned the buildings. Some years later, the spaniards established a garrison in the same locality. Finally even when it was abandoned, the settlement site of the french fell into oblivion.
