    Immigration of the Americans to Texas happened because of many factors and these are: liberal land grants, better living conditions and economic opportunities. Populating the place was meant to protect the area from further foreign invasion.

    The land grants were given to the head of the families for a small amount of fee. These lands were meant for grazing and for planting crops. Thos who owned cattle were given additional leagues. People saw this as an opportunity to have a better life. As long as they practice Christianity and followed the rules, they immediately became Mexican citizens. Some businessmen, such as Green Dewitt, contracted hundreds of families to move into the area.
