It was a time in which nationalistic feelings arose. It was the aftermath of the war between England and the USA. The election of James Monroe in 1816 and the time of his presidency was called the era of good feelings an he was reelected in 1820. In politics, people were thinking in women's rights, the abolition of slavery. There was also a phenomenon called the Second Great Awakening that was a revival of the protestant movement with more people going to churches. So campaign designers have to appeal to these people.
