    Even though Marco Polo was not the first European to reach China, he had the skill to uncover new or unknown cultures. He introduced Europe to paper currency, coal as fuel, courier postal system, papermaking, printing, and the compass. He also introduced new Chinese products to Italy, like ice cream and pasta.

    His legacy was to establish the silk road that led to mercantilism and the rise of European cities such as Venice, Milan, and Florence.
