The main aim of the Protestant Reformation during the 16th century was to reform the beliefs and practices of the Roman Catholic Church. When the reformers took all authority from the pope and the clergy, specially all influence en public affais, they allowed the kings and nobles to take advantage of this - They were supportive of the Reformation, because it enabled them to take over the lands and wealth of the Roman Catholic Church and its monastic orders.
