The majority of the revolutionary battles in North Carolina were fought in the southern part of the state. Battles such as: "Cowan's Ford", "Ramsour's Mill", and "Charlotte" where all fought in this area. This was due to the fact that British forces had previously captured Charleston, South Carolina, early in 1780, and had pushed Continental forces up north (towards North Carolina).
