Writers were aiming for women to become "Daughters of Liberty". A term that was used at the time to describe all women who supported the patriotic cause. These women occupied a series of roles during the war. From more supportive roles like being nurses, cooks, and maids to more direct roles like being spies. Women serving as spies often worked as cooks and maids for the British camps where they would gather information regarding troop movements, military plans, and deliveries.
