What was the significance of the Harlem Renaissance

The Harlem Renaissance was a social, intellectual, and artistic explosion in the African-American community centered around Harlem, NY. It provided African-Americans with a source of artistic pride and create a community of sorts which allowed for further artistic, social, and intellectual creativity as the decades went on.
