Why do you think the constitution has a civilian president in charge of the military (the armed forces)

    The best reason for civilian oversight over the military is the need for perspective.

    Those in the military train their entire lives to fight and their job is to fight well.

    That, however, gives you blinders.

    Civilian oversight allows, hopefully, for prudent decisionmaking.
