The answer is: All goods and raw materials were tightly regulated by the mother country.

During the commercial revolution, mother countries started to impose a really high taxation rate for goods/materials that the colonists bought from the mother countries.

This massively reduce the profit that the colonists get, so they started to threaten the mother countries that they would stop productions altogether. This created discord between colonists and their mother countries.
