    International conference, which lasted from November 12, 1921 to February 6, 1922, in Washington. Convened on the regulation of the situation in the Far East and the Pacific Ocean emerged after the end of World War I, Japan's promotion to the rank of the great powers and to limit arms of the sea.

    Participated by the United States, Japan, China and 6 European countries, the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Belgium, the Netherlands and Portugal. As a result of the conference was signed on 3 main international treaties and several smaller agreements. The most important of these, known as the Washington Treaty, or 'Treaty of five ", has set limits on the tonnage and proportion of fleets of warships the US, UK, Japan, France and Italy. Treaty banned the construction of new battleships and limited displacement built ships.
