    The two world wards settled the issues that caused them through imperialism and this was made possible in two stages: WW I wound up the four resident European Empires - German, Austro-Hungarian, Czarist Russian & Turkish Othman Empires. WW II wound up the eight overseas Empires - British, French, Dutch, Belgian, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish & Danish. Hope this answers your question.
