Why did northeaterners and soutnerners disagree of the issue of tariffs?

    Southerners disliked tariffs because it would cost them more money to purchase their goods and they didn't have a lot of money because they got most of their money from growing and selling cotton. the north argued that they wouldn't be spending more compared to if they bought the goods from England or somewhere else
